World Boxing Champ Hector Camacho Declared Brain Dead
Camacho was shot in the face while sitting in a car in San Jose, Puerto Rico, on Tuesday and was rushed to Centro Medico hospital in Rio Piedras where he his conditions was declared critical but stable.
However, according to the director of the hospital Ernesto Torres, the 50-year-old is brain dead but doctors are still performing tests before meeting with his family.
"Clinically, Hector 'Macho' Camacho is brain dead," he said, adding that it will be up to the family to decide whether to disconnect the respirator.
Torrest revealed earlier that the bullet "damaged three arteries that run through the neck and as a result blood is not flowing well" to Camacho's brain.
Comacho's driver, Alberto Mojica Moreno, 49, was killed in the shooting.
Camacho had a career record of 79-5-3, including 38 knockouts, and he fought the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Julio Cesar Chavez, Sugar Ray Leonard, Felix Trinidad, Ray Mancini and Greg Haugen during his career.
